Paul-Walker-and-Vin-Diesel-in-Fast-and-Furious-6With Fast and Furious 6 rolling into theatres next month, we’ve recently been hearing that Universal are eager to release the next instalment in the series, Fast and Furious 7, next summer.

James Wan (Saw, Insidious) is set to take his career in a very interesting new direction, taking to the helm in place of Justin Lin, who has bowed out from the sequel to focus on the release of next month’s blockbuster.

And with Wan set to direct, Vin Diesel has announced that Fast and Furious 7 will be hitting theatres on July 11th, 2014.

The announcement comes straight from the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon, and filming is set to get underway this summer in Los Angeles.

As of yet, we don’t know anything about the plot or exactly who’ll be returning for the sequel.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will be returning to co-lead the blockbuster. But beyond them, there remain a handful of question marks. Dwayne Johnson has spoken of the possibility of having to opt out of returning if filming takes place this summer, with his Hercules schedule conflicting with expected production dates.

But here’s to hoping that Universal will be able to bring the majority of the cast back alongside Diesel and Walker, as well as bringing on board a handful of new actors, like they’ve done for the recent instalments.

There’s no word yet, but the odds are good that Wan will be directing from a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written the past four films in the series, including Fast and Furious 6.

Fast and Furious 7 is now officially set for July 11th, 2014, and has instantly become one of my most anticipated films of next year. There are currently no other films opening in the same slot next summer, and it’s likely to stay that way, in terms of other major release. Bryan Singer’s anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past will be opening a week later, and smart money says that July will be one of the biggest months at the box office next year.
