Fast-and-Furious-6-PosterIt looks like Iron Man 3 isn’t the only blockbuster we’ll be getting a week early on our shores, with Universal announcing that they’re bringing forward the UK release date of Fast and Furious 6 by a week.

The film was originally to open opposite The Hangover Part III the following week, with both films opening over the same weekend in the US.

But with Star Trek Into Darkness recently being brought forward by a week on our shores as well, that left a slot open in mid-May, and Universal are opting to bring Fast and Furious 6 into that newly-vacated space. And to celebrate the earlier-than-expected release date, we’ve got an awesome new extended TV spot to share.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker take the lead of a brilliant cast once more. And they’re joined by Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, and Sung Kang.

Justin Lin is behind the camera once more, having helmed the previous three films in the franchise. And he’s directing from a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written all the films Lin’s directed in the series.

Lin has recently announced that he won’t be returning to direct Fast and Furious 7, feeling that getting into pre-production for the sequel now wouldn’t lead to his best work, with Fast and Furious 6 still currently in post-production. He’s done an amazing job of giving the franchise a new energy in recent years, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the table here for the sixth film in the series.

Fast and Furious 6 will now be released in the UK a week earlier than expected on 17th May, with its US release date following a week later on May 24th. And to top it all off, it will be hitting select IMAX theatres as well. Amazing. For now, here’s the latest extended TV spot to get you in the mood. This is going to be so awesome.
