Elsa-Pataky-and-Vin-Diesel-in-Fast-and-Furious-6One of the biggest and best things happening this weekend is the launch of the Fast and Furious 6 trailer during the Super Bowl. Universal are going all-out, and we have a feeling that it’s a very good decision on their part.

Rather than having a year-long promotional campaign, they’re giving us our first look at the blockbuster three and a half months before it lands. And the anticipation is naturally running on high.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are back for more, and after the release of the first synopsis yesterday, Diesel has given us a great new image ahead of the weekend’s first trailer.

“Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.”

Diesel and Walker are naturally joined by another brilliant ensemble, headed up by Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, and the excellent Sung Kang.

Justin Lin is behind the camera once more, having helmed the third, fourth, and fifth instalments, and he’s directing from a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written all the films in the series that Lin has directed.

We got our first look at Michelle Rodriguez last month, who’s being resurrected here in Fast and Furious 6. We’d all thought that she’d been killed in Fast & Furious, and then we get an immense mid-credits scene in Fast Five that changed the game and upped the stakes for the upcoming film.

Fast and Furious 6 will be hitting on 24th May in the UK and US, and it really can’t come fast enough. Be sure to come back on Sunday for when the trailer lands. This is going to be amazing. One of the best films of the year, hands down.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
