Just a couple of weeks ago, rapper/actor Common took home an Academy Award for his work on the Best Original Song winner “Glory” from Ava DuVernay’s masterful Martin Luther King Jr. drama, Selma.  Now, the soft-spoken hitmaker is turning his attention back to his work on the big screen with his role as a mercurial assassin in Jaume Collet-Serra’s Run All Night.

In the film, Common is Price, a murderer for hire who is tasked by a vengeful mobster (Ed Harris) to hunt down and kill his former associate Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) and his innocent son Mike (Joel Kinnaman).  It’s a different type of role for Common, and we couldn’t wait to talk to him about it.

We met up with him and the rest of the cast in New York recently to chat about the role, among other things, ahead of the film’s release this Friday.

During the interview, we discuss:

  • Winning Oscars
  • Playing bad guys
  • Evil big screen baddies
  • Whether he’d still be interested in playing Green Lantern
