Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) has been added to the cast of twisted fairytale retelling Jack the Giant Killer.

McGregor will star opposite Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class), Stanley Tucci (Burlesque), Bill Nighy (Notes on a Scandal) and John Kassir (Race to Witch Mountain), and is said to be up for the role as the leader of the King’s guard.

The two actresses in contention for the role of the princess are Adelaide Kane (TV’s Neighbours) and Eleanor Tomlinson (Alice in Wonderland).

Jack the Giant Killer centers on a young farmer (Hoult) who leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess.

Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) is attached to direct, with production expected to begin in the next few months.
