We’ve seen two brilliant red-band trailers already, which have been wonderfully terrifying. And now Sony have given us another great new trailer to enjoy, full of Evil Dead goodness. It’s a little more suitable for work, but only to the extent that it’s got a green-band rating. Given the nature of the footage, it’s probably best to save this one until you get home. It looks awesome.
“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”
Jane Levy takes the lead in the rather promising remake, starring alongside Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore, with Raimi and original lead Bruce Campbell both serving as producers.
Alvarez makes his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Rodo Sayagues Mendez, with Diablo Cody hired for a revision last year.
SXSW will be fortunate enough to host the Evil Dead world premiere, and it is all but guaranteed to be a fan-favourite of the festival out in Austin this March. If you’re Texas-bound, be sure to look this up.
Evil Dead will be hitting the US on 12th April, with its UK release date set for a week later on 19th April. I can’t wait. This is all but guaranteed to be one of the best horror films of the year. If you’re a fan of the genre, this is definitely a must-see film of the year.
