Stone joins a list of other actresses interested in the role of Spider-Man’s love-interest, including Mia Wasikowska, Teresa Palmer and Lily Collins. However, many are speculating Stone has the edge, mainly due to her long-standing alliance with Sony.

Marc Webb has been confirmed as the director of Spider-Man with production expected to commence next year, setting it up for a mid-2012 release.

21 Jump Street, however, will be directed by Phil Lord, who also directed the hugely successful Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, from a script penned by Jonah Hill and Josh Appelbaum. Production is also expected to start early next year.

As both films are set up at Sony, and expected to shoot around the same time, Stone could have to choose between the roles. That said, Stone may not be offered either of the part. This is, after all, Hollywood. Anything can happen.

Stone will next be seen in Will Gluck’s Easy A, which will open in the UK on October 29.

Variety reported this one.
