He’s been teasing us for months now, but WWE Superstar turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally revealed that he’ll play Black Adam, the nemesis of Shazam. That character will get his own movie as part of Warner Bros. slate of DC Comics projects which will be released between 2016 and 2020.

As we write this, there’s no word on a release date or who will write, direct and star in Shazam alongside Johnson. Some fans still believe that he will play both Black Adam and the titular superhero.

If that doesn’t turn out to be the case, it’s fair to say that Warner Bros. have their work cut out for them when it comes to finding an actor to play Shazam as it’s going to be difficult to root against the charismatic Dwayne Johnson as he tackles a role which will see him go full on bad guy for the first time.

Black Adam is a character who The Rock has expressed his desire to play numerous times in the past.

Though he’s best know as a villain, Adam is also something of an anti-hero, so it will be interesting to see how this comes together and whether The Rock’s character will be the focus instead of Shazam.

UPDATE: Variety now reveals that Goosebumps and Jack the Giant Slayer scribe Darren Lemke has been hired to write the script. It’s still early days, so whether this will reach us by 2016 remains to be seen.
