Paramount Pictures have added another film to their ever-growing release schedule, announcing on Monday that the live-action adventure Dora the Explorer has been given an August 2nd, 2019 release date.

The story looks set to have grown with the leading character, Dora, no more a 7-year-old child but in her teens who has moved to the city to live with her cousin Diego. No other details have yet been released for the picture. A release date has yet to be finalised but it’s rumoured that Paramount is looking to a 2019 release.

The TV series aired on Nickelodeon between 2000 and 2014 and ran for 172 episodes, which, these days for a fourteen-year stretch aren’t that many. The show focused on Dora, a young American Latina who, along with her monkey Boots, faced riddles and characters like a thieving fox named Swiper as she went on quests.

The Muppets, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and Neighbours director/writer, Nick Stoller will be penning the script and will be produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller as producers.

The Nickelodeon Dora the Explorer series was co-created by Eric Weiner, Chris Gifford, and Valerie Walsh.

Paramount Pictures also have Transformers 7, the Top Gun follow-up and Terminator 6 all lined up for Summer 2019 releases. Paramount’s other family friendly roster of films expected over 2018 and 2019 are Sherlock Gnomes with James McAvoy and Emily Blunt reprising their voice roles with Johnny Depp and Mary J Blige joining the cast, in March 2018, Amusement Park which features Jennifer Garner, Mila Kunis and Matthew Broderick and the video game film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog.
