I’m not sure whether we are over-doing our casting news updates, or whether The Hunger Games is trying to break The Longest Day’s record for most major stars cast in one film, but here comes some more cracking news. Donald Sutherland is said to have been cast as President Snow, the ruler of Panem, who uses the eponymous games as a means of controlling the state.

It feels like Sutherland hasn’t had a meaty film role to get his teeth into since forever, though maybe he has been deliberately targeting more peripheral fare. No doubt he’s lost none of his mojo.

That now gives us Toby Jones, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Lawrence, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland. Quite a haul in anyone’s estimation. Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Peasantville) will direct this esteemed ensemble.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
