The cast list for James Gray’s latest, sci-fi adventure, Ad Astra is gathering quite a cast with the announcement of the one and only Donald Sutherland now set to appear alongside Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Ruth Negga.

Stepping into an undisclosed role, Sutherland will join the story which centers on space engineer Roy McBride – played by Brad Pitt – taking on a voyage of our solar system to find his father who, 20 years previously, embarked on a one-way mission to Neptune looking for any signs of extra-terrestrial life. His father, a man who is classed as a renegade scientist, seemingly poses a threat to all mankind.

Sutherland, who played the evil President Snow in the Jennifer Lawrence lead Hunger Games adaptations, will soon be appearing on the big screen opposite Helen Mirren in Sony Pictures Classics The Leisure Seeker, which premieres at the Toronto Film Festival. He will also be working alongside Trainspotting and Slumdog Million helmer, Danny Boyle on the limited television series Trust in which he will play American Industrialist J. Paul Getty. Getty was a man, who in 1957, was named as the richest living American, despite his wealth he still negotiated his own grandson’s ransom after his kidnapping. Getty is also the great grandfather of actor Balthazar Getty.

The Lost City of Z’s Gray takes the helm on the film in which he co-wrote the script with the Klepto scribe, Ethan Gross. Pitt’s Plan B banner and RT Features Rodrigo Teixeira, Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas and Gray are producing. Mad River’s Marc Butan and RT Features’ Lourenco Sant’Anna and Sophie Mas are executive producing along with Yu Dong, Jeffrey Chan, Anthony Mosawi and Paul Conway.
