Considering Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde was originally just a short novella, it’s remarkable quite how many stories and iterations have been built out of the original text – the latest one of the most unique and original to date, as Joe Stephenson helms Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard and Scott Chambers in the leading roles.
To mark the film’s release we had the pleasure of speaking to the director, paired with the eponymous lead role Izzard, as well as a solo chat with Chambers. We discuss this latest adaptation, and the progressive depiction of a trans character, while they also speak about the return of Hammer, what gives this story longevity – and how they were allowed to improvise on set…

Synopsis
Dr. Nina Jekyll made herself a fortune in the pharmaceutical industry, rubbing shoulders with the elite and becoming a household name. But her success came at a cost, and after scandal forced her out of the spotlight she now lives in seclusion with her demons. In need of an assistant, Jekyll hires Rob – an ex-con straight out of rehab, trying to get back on his feet. However, it soon becomes clear that there are evil forces at play, and Rob’s wits are tested in a game of cat and mouse with a mysterious and manipulative entity.
