According to a new report, Guardians of the Galaxy star Djimon Hounsou is in talks to join the cast of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur movie, Knights of the Round Table from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.

The cast currently includes Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) as King Arthur, Astrid Berges-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Guinevere, and Jude Law as the movie’s mysterious lead villain.

Idris Elba was in talks for the role that Hounsou is now circling, and it’s believed to be for a Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur. Whether this means Merlin won’t end up being in the movie isn’t clear, but it appears as if Ritchie’s take on King Arthur will be taking a few liberties with the familiar tale.

The plan is for Knights of the Round Table to be the first in a series of six movies telling the classic King Arthur story. That’s obviously an extremely ambitious plan and one we may not see come to fruition if the first doesn’t end being a hit at the box office. We’ll find that out when it opens on July 22nd, 2016!

Hounsou will next be seen in Fast and Furious 7 and Seventh Son. He also has a supporting role in another 2016 blockbuster, Tarzan. He first rose to prominence in Blood Diamond opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.
