Good news for fans of fantasy cinema who enjoy a cerebral side to the state-of-the-art computer imagery and pyrotechnics on display – the director and star of last year’s breakout hit District 9 are set to reunite.

According to Deadline, Neill Blomkamp and Sharlto Copley will be back together for Elysium, which is reportedly another sci-fi parable, this time set in the far future on another planet.

With 2010 proving to be an equally satisfying year for the duo (District 9 scored a best picture nomination at the Oscars, while Copley was the best thing in this summer’s heavy-handed film adaptation of The A-Team), Blomkamp will probably have a much larger budget to play with this time around, plus a now (semi) bankable star at his disposal too.

Let’s hope that regardless of how they are now viewed in Hollywood, the two can still deliver on what made District 9 so special.
