One of the new voices in horror, Ti West, is swapping genres for his next production.
The Playlist has been chatting to the director during SXSW (where his latest feature, The Innkeepers, received its world premiere) and he revealed that his third film will be a sci-fi thriller called The Side Effects. He’s sparse on details, although the premise will involve pharmaceutical testing in space and paranoia.
“It will be bigger budgeted, but in a way it would fill out a trilogy with The House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers, as far as dealing with isolation and paranoia, and that kind of psychological fear, but it’s set in space.”
West goes on to explain that the film is much more high-concept than his past work although, given his lo-fi, reverential 70’s-inspired approach to horror with The House of the Devil, we’ll probably see something which is more A New Hope than Revenge of the Sith.
