Diana-Teaser-PosterOliver Hirschbiegel’s Diana is sure to become one of the most prominent films of the year, with its autumn/fall release giving it a strong position to campaign for the BAFTAs and Oscars.

The dialogue-free first teaser trailer we saw last week gave us a beautiful glimpse at Naomi Watts starring as the People’s Princess. And now the first teaser poster has arrived, with Watts looking remarkable in the eponymous lead.

When Princess Diana flew to Pakistan in May 1997, she went to meet the family of Dr. Hasnat Khan, the man she wanted to marry. One of the most famous and beautiful women in the world, she hoped to persuade Dr. Khan’s mother that she would make a suitable wife for her son. Had she succeeded, the events of that summer might have been very different…

A love story about family, friendship and the calamity of fame.

Watts stars opposite Naveen Andrews as Dr. Hasnat Khan and Cas Anvar as Dodi Fayed.

Hirschbiegel (Downfall) is directing from a script penned by Stephen Jeffreys.

Whilst the film remains without a firm release date across the Atlantic, this poster promises that it will be arriving ‘In Theatres This Fall’. It’s worth noting, though, that ‘theatres’ is spelt the British English way, and the American ‘fall’ is used rather than ‘autumn’. Nevertheless, given that it will be out in the UK in three months, it’s a safe bet to expect its arrival in the US this autumn/fall rather than the winter.

Diana is set to be released in the UK on 20th September. And with any luck, we’ll have a concrete US release date soon. In the meantime, here’s the first teaser poster for Hirschbiegel’s anticipated drama.
