If you’ve seen Season 4 of hit TV show, Dexter, you’ll know that it ended on a rather shocking and surprising note! Because of that, Season 5 had to begin dealing with the way in which Season 4 left off. Because of this, Dexter Season 5 starts off a little bit slower than Season 4 did but it’s not long before Dexter is back on his killing streak and the plotline for Season 5 emerges.

This storyline focuses around a group of men who get their kicks from capturing and torturing blonde victims. Through a rather tenuous link, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) discovers this web of crime and actively gets involved in not only pursuing the baddies but also comes across one of the victims named Lumen (Julia Stiles).

It was great to see Stiles back on my TV screen as I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything since The Bourne series of movies and she plays opposite Hall brilliantly and you really want them to succeed in their hunt for the villains.

As with all the earlier series, the subplots  and the constant battle with Dexter’s colleagues and his family to hide his extra curricular activities keep the audience entertained and the supporting cast including Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), Batista (David Zayas), Quinn (Desmond Harrington) and LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez) are all just as good as they have been in the previous outings with new trials and tribulations to work through – many of them created by Dexter trying to hide his tracks!

I did really enjoy all 12 episodes of Season Five but found that the first two took a while to get going but that was mainly due to the way in which they had to deal with the storyline from Season Four so can be forgiven. John Lithgow is just so good in Season Four that I missed him very much in this latest season but Stiles does a great job at keeping you gripped with her own storyline and let’s face it chaps, she’s much easier on the eye!

If you’re a fan of Dexter and his previous antics, then this series won’t let you down and each episode will leave you yearning for more! All I can say is bring on Season 6!
