Joining the ranks of horror franchises that won’t die, Final Destination is not only back for a fifth instalment, but it would appear that plans are already afoot for not just one, but two follow-ups.

Dread Central has been chatting to Candyman and FD veteran Tony Todd, about his involvement in number 5 (currently in post-production) and he let slip on plans beyond that feature:

“The producer told me as we were leaving Vancouver that if it opens at Number 1, they’re going to shoot the next two simultaneously.”

So there you have it. The destination to this long-running series (the first was released in 2000!) looks to be anything but final. I wonder if this little reveal will encourage the makers of Saw to begin devising another set of traps and torture scenarios?

Free from having to keep resurrecting a villain in desperate and contrived ways, (hello Jigsaw, Michael, Freddy and Jason) the formula for the Final Destination films suggest that an almost infinite amount of stories could be mined from the premise. For the next film, Death is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of co-workers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse.

At this rate, don’t be surprised if your teenage kinds are still paying a visit to the multiplexes of the future to see what gory fate is in store for those deceivers of doom.
