Here’s a potentially mouth-watering piece of casting news.

Deadline are reporting that Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are interested in joining the cast of a mob drama called The Irishman, which Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro have both been developing for a while.

It’s based on the life of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a former labour union official who was accused of having links to organized crime and of being a hitman. A book about him was released in 2004 called I Heard You Paint Houses.

Scorsese is directing the 3D film The Invention of Hugh Cabret here in the UK at the moment, but this is said to be one of the future projects he’s considering making.

If this does all fall into place and De Niro and Pacino appear together once again, let’s hope it puts to bed the bad memories of Righteous Kill and aims for the gravitas in Heat.
