The always controversial (some have claimed despotic and mercurial) director of the Iraq War classic ‘Three Kings’ and the not so classic ‘I Heart Huckabees’ (best known for leaked footage of on set shouting matches between director and cast) David O. Russell has walked away from the romantic comedy/satire ‘Nailed’, which has sat on the shelf uncompleted since 2008.

‘Nailed’ stars Jake Gyllenhal as a hapless DC congressman who becomes romantically involved with Jessica Biel, a woman who becomes an advocate for people with ‘peculiar’ injuries after she recovers from being shot in the head with a nail gun.

According to THR negotiations between Russell and financier Ronald Tutor, who controls the film with Pangea Media Group CEO David Bergstein (who are currently negotiating to purchase Miramax from Disney), broke down over Russell’s unhappiness at Tutor’s insistence the producing team behind the film reduce their fees by one half.

Tutor was quoted in HR as saying,

So we’re going to go ahead probably with ‘Nailed’ and try to hire another director and finish it.

Hmmm…another director to finish a David O. Russell movie…any suggestions?

I've worked in entertainment product development and sales & marketing in the U.S., UK and my native Canada for over 20 years, and have been a part of many changes during that time (I've overseen home entertainment releases on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD and Blu-ray). I've also written and commentated about film and music for many outlets over the years. The first film I saw in the cinema was Mary Poppins, some time in the mid-60s: I was hooked. My love of the moving image remains as strong as ever.
