To celebrate the release of the new drama Looking Through Water, which arrives in US cinemas this weekend, we had the pleasure of chatting to David Morse about the film as well as his varied and incredible career to date.

William McKay’s career is in ruins after a shocking betrayal. Called by his estranged father, he travels to Belize for a fishing tournament that reopens old wounds and sparks new understanding. Decades later, William recalls that pivotal trip as he tries to connect with his angry, distant grandson. Based on the award-winning novels by Bob Rich with a screenplay from Rowdy Herrington (Striking Distance, Jack’s Back) and Zach Dean (The Gorge), the film stars Academy Award-Winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street), Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield), Cameron Douglas (Wire Room), David Morse (The Green Mile), and Walker Scobell (Deadpool & Wolverine).

Chatting with Morse, we talk about the lure of his new film, his own memories of his father and family and why those memories helped him decide to take on the film, its extraordinary cast, meeting Michael Douglas again after almost working together years previous and much more.

We also delve into some of his most famous films: we talk about The Rock, how Arnold Schwarzenegger nearly starred in it, working with Sean Connery and how the fan theory of the film being a “older” James Bond film in disguise, and how the dramatic ending was changed after he had signed on.

We also talk about Contact, The Long Kiss Goodnight and The Green Mile, the latter of which Morse talks about being one of the most moving and enduring films of modern times and much more.
