Original ‘Ghostbusters’ cast members Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are to return to the classic movie for Jason Reitman’s sequel.
Aykroyd confirmed he will be returning as Ray Stantz via an interview with Joe Regan Experience, stating “I’m not in the pictures so much anymore. We’ve got the Ghostbusters movie that we’re working on now and I will have to be performing in that.”
While Hudson confirmed his return as Winston Zeddemore with an online video: “We’re shooting the new Ghostbusters right now, coming out next summer, so I’m hoping that you’ll enjoy it as much as the other movies that we’ve done. I know that I’m having a blast doing it..”
Sigourney Weaver who played Dana Barrett and Annie Potts who played Janine Melnitz have already been confirmed to reprise their roles from the original 2 films but there is still no word on Bill Murrey returning. Also, previously announced new cast member, Paul Rudd’s character details have been made public. Rudd will play a seismologist investigating some strange earthquakes while also teaching summer school. Other new cast members include Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace.

Reitman will be following in his Father’s footsteps, Ivan, who directed the first two films in the franchise back in 1984 and 1989. The next instalment is said to be a continuation of the 1984 film and in no way connected to its all-female 2016 reboot.
The story is rumoured to be an extension of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ and focus on a single mom and her family, with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard playing her son.
Sony has always been big fans of the franchise and was looking for ways to bring the original back to life. The even went covert in closing a deal with Reitman with a fake title of Rust City just to keep the news out of the press until the time was right.
Reitman has co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer, with Sony planning to release the latest sequel in summer 2020.
