After bringing us one of last year’s best comedy-dramas with Crazy, Stupid, Love., the co-directing/-writing team of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to reunite once more, having made a deal with Warner Bros. to direct their own script, Focus.

And as if that wasn’t excellent in itself, they have their eye on two of the stars of their last movie, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, to lead the new comedy.

Focus tells the story of a veteran con man who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business. They get involved romantically but that becomes perilous in a business where they lie and cheat for a living. The complications of the encounter haunt them when they meet up again in the future.”

Gosling and Stone are of course both exceptionally talented, and worked absolutely brilliantly opposite each other under Ficarra and Requa’s direction last year. They’ll be back on the big screen together once more, under Ruben Fleischer’s direction, in Gangster Squad, due out on 9th November here in the UK, in what is one of my most anticipated films of the year.

So the possibility of seeing them working together in a third film is brilliant in my books. Deadline report that the directors, who are working with their Crazy, Stupid, Love. producer Denise DiNovi, are hoping to cast Gosling and Stone but that it’s not got that far yet, so this is still just an early-stages story. But we can all hope. More as we get it. (Keep your fingers crossed in the meantime.)

And if you haven’t seen them working together in Crazy, Stupid, Love. yet, I highly recommend seeking it out as soon as you get a chance.
