Casting work is well underway for Quentin Tarantino’s next revisionist piece, the spaghetti Western-influenced, Django Unchained.

With Inglourious Basterds Christoph Waltz already onboard, and word that Samuel L. Jackson will return for the forth film with the director (remember, he did some voice-over work on ‘Basterds’), Leonardo DiCaprio is now apparently in talks for the role of the principal villain according to Deadline.

If cast he’ll play ranch owner and club proprietor, Calvin Candie. The club in question goes by the misleading title of Candyland, and is reportedly a place where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are matched together and forced to fight to the death for entertainment. Think I’ll pass on purchasing a yearly membership card.

DiCaprio sounds like an odd choice, given his boyish, somewhat innocent looks (particularly compared against the truly horrendous-sounding character he’s interested in playing), but if any filmmaker can do a fantastic job of subverting the actor’s image, Tarantino is surely the one.
