It feels like its been a long time coming but Amazon Prime Video are starting to gear up for the arrival of the long-awaited sequel ‘Coming 2 America’ with some first look images.
In the sequel, Prince Akeem (Murphy) is set to become king of the fictional country of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America — a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. To honour the former king’s dying wish to groom his grandson as the crown prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America.
Murphy, Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones are reprising their roles. The film stars Jermaine Fowler and supporting cast includes Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, and Wesley Snipes.
On reuniting with original cast members, Murphy stated; “My favorite part of reuniting with the cast of COMING TO AMERICA was making a movie that’s as good as the first one. Getting everybody together, including Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones and the rest of my royal family, and making a really great movie, that’s my favorite part.”

The follow-up to the 1988 film will be coming to Amazon Prime on March 5 2021.
