As well as being touted to direct Superman for Warner Bros. and Wolverine 2 for 20th Century Fox, it seems Columbia also have a project in mind for master craftsman Darren Aronofsky.

According to Newsarama Aronofsky is one of Columbia’s top choices to direct the feature-film adaptation of Preacher.

John August (Big Fish) has completed the script and Columbia are looking for production to start as soon as physically possible.

Other attempts at bringing Preacher to the big screen, most notably with Sam Mendes in 2008, have fallen by the wayside. But is Aronofsky the type of director to commit to such a high-profile, big league production?

Preacher, a comic-book series created by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, follows a priest who comes into contact with a supernatural being called Genesis and goes on a mission to find an absentee God.

It’s important to remember that, like Superman and Wolverine 2, just because Columbia are ‘interested’ in Aronofsky doesn’t, in any way shape of form, mean he will in fact direct.
