Following on from the great success of the 2009 original, which took almost a quarter of a billion dollars, Sony Pictures Animation will be bringing Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to the big screen later this year, and we’re naturally really looking forward to its arrival.
Original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have stepped aside and serve as executive producers instead – with their focus on directing the highly anticipated LEGO movie – and Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn have taken their place as co-directors, making their feature debuts behind the camera together.
With a little over half a year until the film arrives in theatres, the studio have given USA Today a great new look at the film, introducing us to a new invention – the Food-imal species, wonderfully crossing food with animals.
“When inventor Flint Lockwood discovers that his most infamous machine – the FLDSMDFR – is still operating and is now creating giant mutant food beasts that threaten to destroy civilization, he knows he’s the only one who can stop it. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint and his friends must embark on a dangerously delicious mission battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world… again!”
Bill Hader and Anna Faris return as the leads for the voice cast, with another great supporting cast, headed up by Andy Samberg, James Caan, Neil Patrick Harris, Terry Crews, Kristen Schaal, Will Forte, and Benjamin Bratt.
Cameron and Pearn are directing from a script co-written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who co-wrote Horrible Bosses, one of the funniest films I’ve seen in years.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will be released in the US on 27th September, with its UK release date set slightly later for 25th October. Judging by this great new image and its close-ups, we’ve got a lot to look forward to.
