Here’s one for geeks like me that can’t get enough of LEGO. This very weekend I spent most of Saturday helping my 5 years old with the building a LEGO X-Wing that we’ve had sat on a shelf for almost a year. It’s a thing of beauty of that there is no denying! The main issue now is trying to find the space to play with it when said 5 year old is at school and will allow me!

LEGO X-Wing

LEGO is a wonderful thing allowing you to create pretty much anything limited only by the supply of bricks that you have to utilise. Well when LEGO want to go big on something they really go BIG. They’ve joined forces with car manufacturer Chevrolet to create a life-size version of the Batmobile to coincide with the release of their new film The LEGO Batman Movie and it really is magnificent!

The final product was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Saturday and used a stonking 344,187 LEGO bricks took a team of builders 222 hours to design and 1833 hours to build. It’s over 17 feet long, nearly 7 feet high and weighs an impressive 770Kg!

The fantastic video below sees Batman (Will Arnett) a focus group looking around the car giving a frank analysis into what they think of the finished design. Apparently the black means Batman has self esteem issues, defensive and the lack of a back seats means he has no friends. 🙁

You can also see the video which shows the construction time-lapse of the epic car being created. Kudos to LEGO, Chevrolet and most importantly the team of engineers who designed and build the thing. Truly brilliant!

The LEGO Batman Movie releases in UK cinemas February 9th.
