Suicide Squad has gone from being a movie which comic book fans couldn’t quite believe was being made to one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2016. A big part of that is not only because of the involvement of Fury’s David Ayer, but also the downright amazing cast which rivals that of The Avengers.
Behind the scenes, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder is executive producing (likely because he’s the one spearheading this shared universe) as is DC Comics writer and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. He plays a major role in all of their adaptations, including Arrow and The Flash.
Following the recent casting announcement, we take a closer look at each of the confirmed members of the Suicide Squad, telling you all you need to know about both them and the actors who will bring them to the big screen. This is shaping up to be one of 2016’s best comic book movies, so read on for all the details…
8. Tom Hardy – Rick Flag
Rick Flag leads the Suicide Squad, and is the only member of the team who could be considered a hero. Despite the fact that he despises working alongside criminals, Flag soon begins to bond with them, and they’re as faithful to him as he is to them (at one point he even considers assassinating a US Senator to keep their existence secret).
The team needs a good guy to keep them in check, explaining his inclusion here.
Tom Hardy is no stranger to the world of DC Comics after playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, but as that movie was set in its own universe, it makes sense that he’s playing someone else altogether here. Hardy was being eyed for Marvel’s Doctor Strange at one point, so Warner Bros. nabbing him is a big deal.
Some fans would have preferred a straight up superhero role, but this is one which is ideal for the British actor.
