This is speculation, of course, but Heat Vision have a story on a few potential directors for the J.J. Abrams produced fourth film in the Mission:Impossible series, and the name of Pixar’s Brad Bird has been spoken alongside Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer and the man riding high on the wave of the outrageously positive, geek-fuelled, reaction to the trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Edgar Wright.

The Incredibles and The Iron Giant are two of my favourite animated features ever, and Bird’s eye for exciting and engaging narratives stand him in good stead, and while fellow Pixar man Andrew Stanton is currently taking on his first live-action feature with John Carter of Mars it doesn’t seem to out of the ordinary to posit that Bird may soon follow him into the real world.

With Tom Cruise committing to the project recently, and the return of J.J. Abrams in his producing capacity MI:4 will need a strong willed director to realise their vision for the film, and while MI:2 is generally seen as a weak follow up to the Brian DePalma original, the Abrams directed MI:3 gave the series a momentum which Bird, or whoever chooses to accept this mission, will have to maintain.

With production scheduled to start this summer there’s bound to be an announcement pretty soon.
