Hey gang, the pistol has been fired and we are firmly into frock and backslap season as the nominations for the Golden Globes have been announced.

Usually the subject of derision and seen as little more than an Oscar-warm up the Globes have two jewels in their crown: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who return to host the event next year.

Alejandro Inarritu’s wonderful Birdman leads the way, scooping up seven nominations with Richard Linklater’s Boyhood not far behind. Let’s just take a moment. Both original films, untethered to a toy line or decades of comic books. This is why when people claim originality is dead in film you can tell them they are talking balls.

It is also great to see Pride getting a nod, days after their BIFA wins, and there are some interesting nominations in the mix, not least Jennifer Aniston’s nod for a dramatic role.

Here are the nominations in their entirety. January the 11th is when you can enjoy the envelope opening.
