Making a so-bad-it’s-good horror movie is not as easy as it first may seem. Many have tried to spoof the genre and delivered films worse than those they are attempting to satirise. To create a truly enjoyably bad movie several ingredients are needed.

First of all there needs to be an honest intention behind the movie- a belief that it isn’t as bad as it is. This, combined with a complete ignorance of the genre often combine to provide us with some of the most memorable best worst movies.

In this list we can see the worst of the horror genre- remakes, sequels and attempted spoofs, at their very worst. But all of these films are entertaining in their own right, they all hold up well with a few drinks and are certainly a hell of a lot more fun than the usual array of laziness we are delivered in the horror genre.

The Wicker Man (the 2006 remake)

The Wickerman - Nicolas Cage

The original Wicker Man has been described as ‘the Citizen Kane of horror’ and with good reason. The film is a exercise in atmosphere, perfectly directed with some of the most chilling and memorable scenes in the genres history. The remake has none of the above.

Instead it was repackaged as Nicholas Cage driven vehicle with hilarious results. Sure, it is cultural blasphemy and a total insult to the original but its hard to deny that its good fun. Cage camps it up more than he ever has done here and that ending, the one with the bees is one of the most ridiculous things you will ever see, but watched with the right mind set it is entertaining in its own right.

Scary it certainly isn’t but funny it certainly is.
