The 80s are back – didn’t you hear? As well as fueling a certain website’s origin it was also the decade that gave us some of the most shameless Saturday TV entertainment. And while we wait for the big screen reboots of Airwolf and Knight Rider (CHiPS is already coming – don’t worry…) we can console ourselves with Baywatch – the movie!
The Seth Gordon directed enterprise has wisely enlisted the services of Dwayne Johnson to front their balls out, foul-mouthed reboot for the series. The tone of the new film is, as expected, a very knowing one. The series, starring David Hasselhoff and the puberty-stirring Pamela Anderson, was fairly tame compared to what’s coming up here. The new character posters for the film were released today and are as subtle as the over the top first trailer we recently enjoyed.

The Rock leads the cast of lifeguards, including Zac Efron’s ballsy new recruit and Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, along with Hannibal Buress. They are teaming up against Priyanka Chopra’s oil tycoon, who in true soap opera fashion is trying to take over the beach. Because money. So the cast is there, the ribald tone is front and centre, and so what’s left but to await the UK release of Baywatch on the 31st of May to find out if it’s safe to get back in the water.
