A lot of set photos from Baywatch have been doing the rounds recently, but now Entertainment Tonight has taken us behind the scenes by catching up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron to get some fresh intel on what’s to come in the movie.
Confirming that the two leads hate each other at first (something Johnson has recently alluded to on social media), Efron sheds some light on the character he’s playing, while the wrestler turned actor reveals that he’s very grateful to David Hasslehoff for the support he’s given him since he first landed the role made famous by the actor in the original TV series.
“I got to tell you, The Hoff has been amazing!” Johnson told the site. “From day one, he’s been so supportive. He’s like, ‘If there’s one guy who could play me, it’s The Rock.'”
In all honesty, Johnson will likely surpass what The Hoff did, and despite the initial reaction to this Baywatch reboot, the more we hear about it, the better it sounds! Depending on how well audiences respond to it next year, don’t be surprised to see it become a franchise.
Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), Baywatch revolves around a by-the-book leader of an elite team of lifeguards (Johnson) who’s forced to team with a rule-breaking hotshot (Efron) to save the bay from an oil tycoon (Priyanka Chopra). Set for release on May 19th, 2017, the cast also includes Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Hannibal Buress.
UPDATE: The Rock has now revealed that The Hoff will indeed be making an appearance!
