A24 has officially dropped the full trailer for ‘Backrooms,’ the highly anticipated film adaptation of the viral internet horror phenomenon that has haunted digital corridors for years. Expanding on the eerie mythology first introduced in the viral short ‘The Backrooms.’
The original ‘Backrooms’ legend, born from internet creepypasta culture, is set in the 1990s and follows a young filmmaker who accidentally slips into a parallel dimension. There, he wanders through an endless maze of yellow-tinted office spaces, buzzing with fluorescent lights and an overwhelming sense of isolation… and something far more sinister lurking just out of sight.
This feature adaptation shifts perspective, centring on a therapist who becomes entangled in the same distorted reality.
At the helm is Kane Parsons, the 19-year-old creator of the original video, making history as the youngest director ever to work with A24. Leading the cast are Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. They are joined by Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.
Behind the scenes, the project boasts an impressive producing team, including horror maestro James Wan alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Chris Ferguson, and Michael Clear.
