Austenland-PosterAfter making an impressive debut at Sundance at the start of the year, Austenland is heading into theatres across the Atlantic starting next month, and now a great first trailer has landed online.

Whilst we tend to think of cosplay as largely referring to dressing up works from anime, video games, or (blockbuster) movies, we get to see an entirely different side to dressing up as fictional characters in the first trailer below, via Yahoo Movies.

Keri Russell looks great in the lead. And whilst I admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Jennifer Coolidge, I love everything I’ve seen Bret McKenzie do, and can’t wait to see him here alongside Russell.

AUSTENLAND is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with all things Jane Austen. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.

Joining Russell on her Jane Austen-styled adventure will be JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jane Seymour, Jennifer Coolidge, Georgia King, James Callis, and Ricky Whittle.

Jerusha Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) is making her feature directorial debut here, co-writing the script with Shannon Hale, who wrote the novel upon which the film is based.

Austenland is set to begin its limited release in the US on August 16th, with Sony Classics widening the release in successive weeks. Here in the UK, its release date is set for 27th September. Whilst we await its arrival, here’s the first trailer. You can’t help but love McKenzie.
