Acclaimed filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan is assembling a powerhouse cast for his long-awaited return to directing, with Aubrey Plaza, Adam Driver, Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Broderick set to star in the upcoming drama ‘Tomorrow Is a Drag.’
The project marks Lonergan’s first feature as director since the critically acclaimed Manchester by the Sea, which earned Casey Affleck the Academy Award for Best Actor and secured Lonergan an Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay, alongside a Best Director nomination.

While plot details for ‘Tomorrow Is a Drag’ are being tightly guarded, the title alone suggests the kind of bittersweet emotional terrain that has become synonymous with Lonergan’s work. The writer-director built his reputation on richly layered human stories in films such as Margaret and You Can Count on Me, blending razor-sharp humour with deeply intimate character studies.
Producing duties will be handled by Sara Murphy under her Fat City banner. Murphy recently produced One Battle After Another for filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.
Production on ‘Tomorrow Is a Drag’ is scheduled to begin this autumn in New York City
