Anthony MackieMarvel unveiled the full titles and logos of their upcoming 2013/14 slate at Comic-Con over the weekend, and it looks like progress is coming along very nicely with the Captain America sequel, which we now know to be called Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) is in talks to star alongside Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan in the sequel, THR report, and though Marvel wouldn’t comment on the casting and are keeping the plot under wraps, it sounds like they have it on good faith that Mackie is set to play the Falcon.

“The character, Sam Wilson, is Harlem-based and had many street adventures with Cap in the 1970s comics, when he served as his partner. He derives his powers from a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength. He can also telepathically talk to birds. In current comics, Falcon is a key player in many of Cap’s espionage adventures.”

The newly-announced title indicates the film will be heading in the direction of Ed Brubaker’s work on the series in the 2000s, which resurrected Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and re-introduced him as the antagonist, The Winter Soldier.

Having Mackie alongside Evans and Stan, with Samuel L. Jackson expected to reprise his usual role as Nick Fury, adds to the immense things we can expect from the sequel, with brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (Arrested Development, Welcome to Collinwood) behind the camera.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is due to be released on 4th April, 2014, and will be preceded by Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World next year. Phase Two is sounding more and more brilliant by the day.
