With such great things on the horizon, Variety report that the actress is hoping to return to work with her producers of Rachel Getting Married (which won Hathaway her Oscar nomination), Marc Platt and Jonathan Demme, to both topline and produce the indie romantic-drama, Song One.
Kate Barker-Froyland, who served as director David Frankel’s assistant in the Hathaway-starrer The Devil Wears Prada, has penned the original script and would be making her directorial debut. And added to all those connections, Hathaway’s fiancé, Adam Shulman, would be producing alongside her.
“Story centers on a young woman who returns home after her brother is injured, only to meet and romantically connect with his favorite musician, who draws inspiration from the siblings.”
According to the report, several things would still have to fall into place for the project to come to fruition, but with no firm start dates yet for her future films, this could well be something we’ll be hearing more about soon. I always like to read about past collaborators returning to work together, and it sounds like this has enough connections to be something of a passion project for everyone involved.
Hathaway has been rising fantastically and impressively since her debut back in 2001 in The Princess Diaries, and this is definitely a project I’d love to see her lead and make her producing debut with.
She will of course next be seen on 20th July in The Dark Knight Rises (catch up on all our coverage for the film here), before returning to the big screen later this year in Les Misérables, the first trailer for which landed earlier this week and is absolutely essential viewing.
I know it’s early days yet, but I think Hathaway will certainly be a strong contender for her role in the latter come Oscar season early next year, and I’m already hoping she’ll be taking the stage to accept.
