The Judd Apatow produced comedy Five Year Engagement has been on the cards for three years already, with a 2008 Variety article announcing the plan for the Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-writers and director and star Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel to develop the ‘bawdy, couples comedy, about an eventful five year – well, you know the rest.

Stoller hinted that the project was

definitely an extension of our desire to explore the depth of human misery. If Sarah Marshall and Jason’s character had stayed together, this might be the sequel.

So we have a fair idea of what to expect from the two, and so far the cast list Apatow has pulled together for Universal is pretty impressive with Segel reuniting with his Gulliver’s Travels co-star Emily Blunt as well as having Alison Brie, Rhys Ifans and Chris Pratt on board.

There’s a new name heading for the romantic roller coaster today as Deadline report that Jacki Weaver, who found exceptional critical acclaim last year in David Michôd’s Animal Kingdom, has signed on to the project. No more details have been announced but it’s fair to say we’ll see a different side to Weaver this time around.
