Angelina Jolie has entered into negotiations to join Marvel and Disney’s adaptation of the Jack Kirby comic ‘The Eternals’.
No word of which role Jolie would be up for has been made public. ‘The Rider’s’ Chloe Zhao will take the helm on the next chapter of the MCU universe. Matthew and Ryan Firpo have adapted the screenplay.
Making their first appearance in 1976, ‘The Eternals’ are a species of humanity, described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. Created by an Alien species known as Celestials, they were created to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants.
The film is thought to centre around Sersi, a fourth generation member of the group born during the Hyborean Age who can manipulate cosmic energy to give her virtual immortality, invulnerability and molecular manipulation.
In 2006, Neil Gaiman and artist John Romita, Jr. created a mini-series to bring the story up-to-date with the modern Marvel Universe.
With the future of the beloved Marvel universe up in the air after the events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ people are keen to see in which direction the MCU will be heading. The next instalment ‘Avengers: Endgame’ should give us all a clearer picture.
Jolie previously voiced the role of Tigress in ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’, her next role sees her returning as Maleficent in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’.
