Kristen-WiigArriving in theatres this December, Anchorman: The Legend Continues is all but guaranteed to be one of the year’s funniest films.

We saw a brilliant first teaser poster, and an even more awesome teaser trailer, back in the spring last year. And the year ended with news that Kristen Wiig was in talks to join the cast for the sequel.

And now director Adam McKay has confirmed through his Twitter that Wiig is on board, and we couldn’t be happier with the casting.

“Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!”

The Oscar-nominated Wiig (Bridesmaids) is joining the cast as the love interest for Steve Carell, and there’s so much potential for comedy there. So naturally, Wiig sounds like the ideal casting.

She’s one of a handful of actresses who has made a name for herself in recent years almost exclusively through comedy, hence making her something of the perfect choice for both the film and the role.

McKay will be directing from a script he’s co-written with the brilliant Will Ferrell, and with a December release date on the schedule, we’re expecting production to begin soon.

Ferrell will of course be starring alongside the original gang, headed up by Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate. And with Wiig now on board, things are looking even better than they were when the film was first announced.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues (a.k.a. Anchorman 2) will be hitting theatres on 20th December this year in the US. No word yet on a UK release date, but we’re hoping it will reach our shores before the year’s end, too. More as we get it.
