Conic has released the UK trailer for ‘American Doctor,’ the acclaimed documentary directorial debut from journalist and filmmaker Poh Si Teng, following three doctors who travel to Gaza to volunteer in hospitals overwhelmed by war.

Following festival screenings at Sundance, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and CPH, the documentary brings the experiences of three prominent medics into sharp focus, exploring the human cost of conflict and the difficult line between medicine and politics.

The film follows Palestinian-American emergency doctor Dr. Thaer Ahmad, Jewish American orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Mark Perlmutter and Zoroastrian trauma surgeon Dr. Feroze Sidhwa. Though their personalities and approaches to medicine differ, the three friends are united by their shared oath to save lives.

As they work amid bombardment, medical shortages and personal danger, the doctors face the realities of treating patients in a healthcare system under extraordinary pressure. Their experiences also compel them to speak out about what they witness, taking their fight beyond the hospital walls.

Filmed in unfolding, on-the-ground scenes, ‘American Doctor’ follows the medics from a Gazan hospital under siege to the halls of Congress in Washington. Together, they work to keep a promise to their Palestinian colleagues and patients, continuing their struggle in the United States, where they hope to make a difference.

Poh Si Teng’s debut brings a deeply critical, human-centric perspective to one of the most pressing humanitarian crises of our time. The documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the US Documentary Competition and has since won a raft of international audience awards.
