Talk about girl power! Tessa Thompson has revealed in a Press Conference for the upcoming Taika Waititi directed Thor: Ragnarok, in which she takes the role of Valkrie that Marvel could very well see an all-female superhero film on the horizon.

It’s no secret the superhero offerings available have been very heavily male-dominated but with the great success of DC’s Wonder Women, the tides are finally turning for women to take centre in the genre. Thompson, take her superpowers of the big screen and used them in reality on Marvel boss Kevin Feige stating “Recently I marched up with a couple of other women who work in Marvel and [asked Kevin] ‘How about a movie with some female superheroes? Like all of them.’

Feige commented that with the force presented in front of him he couldn’t very well say no “It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder be taped and turn around find every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’ And I said ‘yes.‘”

Thompson then pointed out that the comics set a precedent for the idea with the ‘Lady Liberators,’ a team of female Avengers first assembled in 1970 in a one-off issue. The team consisted of Valkyrie, Wasp, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Medusa proving she has certainly done her research and the request wasn’t just made of off a whim.

Whether this story is all just in vain we will have to wait and see if Feige keeps to his word. Thor: Ragnarok is out in cinemas this month with Hemsworth back in the title role as Thor, Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Tom Hiddleston is back as Loki and will be joined by Cate Blanchett, playing the evil Hela. Jeff Goldblum makes his Marvel Cinematic debut as Grandmaster, one of the Elders, and Benedict Cumberbatch will make an appearance as Doctor Strange as well as the likes Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban and Anthony Hopkins jumping onboard this intergalactic blockbuster.
