Ain't-Them-Bodies-Saints-PosterWith three awards to its name already since its Sundance debut, David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is heading into UK cinemas this weekend, and the buzz surrounding the film is definitely riding on high.

The film has started its limited release in the US already, and has got off to a good start. And IFC have released a new TV spot, via IMDb, teasing a little of what has fast become one of the most talked-about movies of the year.

Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration.

Set against the backdrop of 1970s Texas Hill Country, director David Lowery paints a poetic picture, evoking the mythology of westerns and saturating the dramatic space with an aching sense of loss. Featuring powerful performances by Affleck, Mara as well as Ben Foster and Keith Carradine, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a story of love, motherhood and searching for peace while faced with an unrelenting past.

Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, and Ben Foster top a stellar cast, joined by Keith Carradine and Nate Parker.

David Lowery is at the helm, directing from his own script, with James M. Johnston and Toby Halbrooks delivering award-winning work on the film as producers.

Lowery’s movie has earned itself a top spot as one of our top 10 must-see movies of the month twice in a row, ahead of its US and UK releases, and has long been on our radar as essential viewing this year.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is on limited release in the US now, and will be given a limited release here in the UK from this Friday, 6th September.
