Deadline are reporting that Amy Adams (Junebug) and Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) have been added to the cast of Walter Salles’ On The Road, an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel. Adams will play Jane, the wife of Mortensen’s character, Lee.

Adams and Mortensen will co-star alongside Kristen Stewart (The Runaways), Sam Riley (Control), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) and Kirsten Dunst (How to Lose Friends and Alienate People). Jose Rivera, who worked with Salles on The Motorcycle Diaries, penned the screenplay.

An adaptation of On The Road has been attempted several times by a variety of directors, including Joel Schmacher and Francis Ford Coppola, but, due to financial and creative differences, never materialised.

However, with Francis Ford Coppola on board as producer, and Salles directing, it appears that Kerouac’s coming-of-age novel could finally be dramatised for a cinema-going audience.

On The Road is currently filming in Montreal.
