Casting news for the exciting sounding adaptation of Seth Graham-Smith graphic novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter continues apace.

We know that Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, 8 Mile) is likely to be involved as Abe’s best friend, along with Benjamin Walker as Abe himself and perhaps Dominic Cooper (An Education, Mamma Mia!) as Abe’s mentor, Henry Sturges.

Added to all of that merciless rumour-mongering we now have news that Robin McLeavy has been cast as Mary Todd, Abe’s love interest (and in due course his wife). Apparently director Timur Bekmambetov wants up and coming actors rather than established stars, so this casting news certainly continues that trend. The script also apparently called for a 20-year old petite brunette, so McLeavy ticks those boxes as well.

As you can see from the pictures below, McLeavy is hardly a spitting image of a young Mary Todd, but then this is a film about Abraham Lincoln hunting vampires, not a prestige biopic, so let’s not be too hard on the casting director !

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
