300-Rise-of-an-Empire-PosterWith Warner Bros. debuting the immense new trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel last night, we’ve now got the first poster to share for another of Snyder’s upcoming projects, 300: Rise of an Empire.

The film, directed by Noam Murro, sees Snyder returning as producer for the ‘sidequel’ to his original blockbuster, 300. After recently catching the first images, this first 300: Rise of an Empire poster cements its status as an action blockbuster to look forward to this summer. And with it comes the first official synopsis, along with the hi-res versions of those first images.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Picture presents and Legendary Pictures presents, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.” The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows,” “Casino Royale”) as Artemesia. Lena Headey reprises her starring role from “300” as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (“Clash of the Titans”) stars as Aeskylos; and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton take the lead as Artemesia and Themistokles, respectively. And they’re joined by a great cast, led by Callan Mulvey and Jack O’Connell, with Rodrigo Santoro and Lena Headey reprising their roles from the original film.

Murro (Smart People) is directing from a script co-written by Snyder and Kurt Johnstad (300), based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, Xerxes.

300: Rise of an Empire will be released on August 2nd in the US and UK. With only a few more months to go before the film hits, we should be seeing the first trailer follow very soon.
