When the news about Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures teaming up to produce a new Spider-Man movie broke, Logan Lerman (Fury) and Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) were mentioned as being under consideration. We’ve heard nothing since, only that they’re looking for a teenage actor this time around.

That will certainly make a nice change to men in their twenties and thirties playing the teenage Peter Parker, and it appears as if Marvel are definitely going back to the character’s roots by casting a young actor to play Spider-Man right at the beginning of his career as a 15 year old inexperienced superhero.

According to a new report, Mateus Ward (who has appeared in Weeds and the short-lived Hostages) recently auditioned for the role, but it’s not clear whether he’s a favourite or just among a number of actors testing.

It was recently revealed that the reboot may be called Spectacular Spider-Man with Drew Goddard directing.

Having Spider-Man be an actual teenager will obviously help him stand out from the other heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will allow the actor to grow into the role as we follow him from high school to college and beyond.
