The Autumn is always a great time for TV, but due to the way most American shows are structured, they take a break in the winter and return in the New Year. As a result, a number of new ones often debut alongside them in January too, making it an exciting time to be glued to the small screen as you kick off 2015.
Next month is no exception, and there are a bunch of brilliant returning shows you should spend the next month catching up on if you haven’t already, as well as plenty of brand new ones well worth checking out.
Below you’ll find just ten of the TV shows we’re most excited about, though there may be a few minor spoilers here and there for some of the shows which are coming back in the New Year.
One or two of these don’t actually reach us until early February, but we’ve included them here as they all make for must-see TV.
ITV’s Dorset set whodunnit took everyone by surprise back in 2013, especially as it became one of the UK’s most critically acclaimed TV shows in quite some time. Series one focused in the mysterious death of an 11 year old boy, and the pair of Detectives (played by David Tennant and Olivia Colman) who teamed up to track down his killer. The series had everyone talking, as did the big twist ending.
Unfortunately, series two is shrouded in secrecy, so we have no idea what to expect when Broadchurch returns. You have to imagine that it will once again be a murder mystery of some sort though, hopefully with a long list of suspect for us to keep a close eye on.
It couldn’t return at a better time, especially with The Missing ending next week and the American TV remake (Gracepoint, also starring Tennant) proving to be somewhat underwhelming so far.
